The series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ has recently premiered and is creating a lot of buzz on the internet. The story is based on the hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight IC 814

The flight took off from Kathmandu for Delhi on December 24, 1999, when it was hijacked by five heavily armed hijackers who took the flight first to UAE and then to Taliban-ruled Kabul.

The hijackers demanded the release of 36 militants from Indian jails and a ransom of $200 million.

A two-hour journey stretched into a week of pain for passengers. After weeklong negotiations and a vigorous diplomatic campaign, the Indian government agreed to release three militants in exchange for passengers held hostage by the hijackers.

One of the passengers was killed by the hijackers.
