(Web Desk): India is mourning the loss of one of its most celebrated singers and songwriters, Zubeen Garg, who tragically passed away at the age of 52 following a scuba diving accident in Singapore on Friday.

Widely known as the “immortal voice” of Assam, his untimely death has left fans, artists, and political leaders across the nation in shock.

According to media reports, Garg was in Singapore to perform at the North East India Festival on September 20 and 21. The accident occurred during a scuba diving session, where he was rushed to hospital but could not be saved despite doctors’ efforts.

Just days earlier, Garg had personally invited fans on social media to attend his free-entry concert, promising an evening of Hindi, Bengali, and Assamese songs.

Tributes poured in soon after the news of Zubeen Garg death broke. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called him an “immortal voice.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock, remembering him for his “rich contribution to music” and sending condolences to his family and admirers.

Actor Adil Hussain, music composer Pritam and singer Jubin Nautiyal also shared heartfelt messages, recalling his artistry and influence.

Garg’s musical journey began in childhood and soared with his debut Assamese album Anamika (1992). Over the decades, he produced numerous hit albums and made a mark in Bollywood with songs in Dil Se, Fiza, Kaante, Krissh 3, and most memorably, Ya Ali from Gangster (2006), which made him a household name.

Beyond fame, Garg’s voice symbolized the cultural heritage of Northeast India. His sudden passing marks the end of an era, but his music will continue to echo in the hearts of millions.
