Rajinikanth’s milestone 50th film, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has opened to historic numbers at the global box office.
The film earned an estimated ₹151 crore worldwide on its opening day, making it the biggest-ever Day 1 for a Tamil film.
Coolie surpassed earlier records set by Jawan, Leo, and 2.0 with a net revenue of ₹65 crore in the country alone.
The majority of this came from Tamil Nadu, where the film witnessed extraordinary occupancy, with fans celebrating its release like a festival.

With a record-breaking $3.04 million (roughly ₹25 crore) from North America, Coolie maintained its dominance internationally.
This was the highest amount ever received for a Tamil film premiere in the region. The Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia, and other important international markets all made substantial contributions to the movie s worldwide box office receipts.
Despite clashing with War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, Coolie maintained a commanding lead at the box office.
While War 2 delivered an impressive ₹50 crore net opening in India, it couldn’t keep pace with the overwhelming momentum generated by Coolie.
Boosted by positive word-of-mouth, the Independence Day holiday boost, and Rajinikanth’s massive fan following, Coolie is on track to dominate the extended weekend and establish new milestones for Tamil cinema on a global scale.
