Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, prepares for its Independence Day weekend release on 14 August 2025.
Globally, Coolie has crossed an unprecedented ₹100 crore (PKR 340 crore) in pre-release bookings, becoming the biggest ever opening for an Indian film before its theatrical release.
In India alone, advance sales have cleared ₹20 crore (PKR 68 crore), selling nearly 900,000 tickets, with Tamil Nadu contributing most heavily.

Overseas pre-sales stand around ₹40–60 crore (PKR 136–204 crore), breaking new ground for Tamil cinema in international markets.
In India, companies like Uno Aqua Care across Tamil Nadu have declared holidays and distributed free tickets, even organising food donations in Madurai, Chennai, and Bengaluru.
In Singapore, organisations such as Farmer Constructions and SB Mart PTE LTD provided paid leave, free tickets, and snacks for Tamil employees to enjoy the opening screenings.
Some analysts predict Coolie could rake in around ₹150 crore (PKR 510 crore) worldwide on its first day—potentially eclipsing previous record-holders like 2.0 and Leo.
In North America alone, it has smashed premiere pre-sales by earning over US $2 million (PKR 580 million), breaking records previously set by Kabali and Leo.
The feverish momentum—from corporate-sanctioned screenings to pre-sale explosions—suggests that Coolie is poised to dominate the box office over the Independence Day weekend. As both War 2 and Coolie have been released simultaneously, their success will be measured against each other in this fierce competition.
Coolie seems destined to be one of the most significant Indian film releases of 2025 as it comes packed with Rajinikanth’s legendary star power, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action-packed storytelling, and a festival weekend backdrop—making fans enter a trance for the thrill.
