(Web Desk): Yash Raj Films’ War 2 is poised for a monumental box office debut, aiming to deliver a blockbuster opening weekend in India.

The Hindi premieres are scheduled for 14 August 2025 just ahead of Independence Day. Despite some controversy surrounding the launch date, the film’s release is steeped in both ambition and strategic timing.

War 2 is directed by Ayan Mukerji and features the star-studded trio of Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR (in his Hindi debut), and Kiara Advani. War 2 marks an ambitious new chapter in YRF’s Spy Universe—the sixth instalment following the likes of War (2019), Pathaan, and Tiger 3. The film is also set to release on IMAX and Dolby Cinema.

Advance bookings are already creating a buzz. Reports indicate that sales have crossed the ₹30 crore (PKR 114 crore) mark for the first day alone, reflective of widespread anticipation. Pinkvilla forecasts a strong opening day in the Hindi market, projecting ₹35 to ₹37 crore (PKR 133–141 crore) nett. The film has been placed between ₹50 and ₹52 crore (PKR 190–197 crore) net by other broader Pinkvilla India-wide outlooks (across all languages).

Meanwhile, analysts such as Ramesh Bala remain bold in their predictions—anticipating ₹75–80 crore (PKR 285–304 crore) in India and upwards of ₹125 crore (PKR 475 crore) globally. Even more ambitious outlooks predict a staggering ₹150–175 crore (PKR 571–666 crore) worldwide on opening day alone.

The promotional campaign has likewise been electric. In Hyderabad, a pre-release event on 10 August turned into a spectacle—with drones, barricades, and over 1,200 police personnel managing legions of fans who turned out to celebrate the film’s launch energy. In Mumbai, diehard admirers are organising a “First Show of India” at 4 am in IMAX Wadala to pay tribute to Hrithik Roshan’s enduring star power as he celebrates 25 years in the industry.

Early reactions inside theatres have also been nothing short of jubilant. In the theatres, Jr. NTR’s electric entry has fans in a frenzy as they are seen hooting and throwing confetti.

A significant debate has been sparked on social media over the film’s patriotic message, as it has been released strategically on 14 August, coinciding with Pakistan’s Independence Day. Despite the backlash, the date remains critical to YRF’s strategy, aligning the film with India’s festive weekend.

In addition, Rajinikanth’s Coolie and War 2 are going head-to-head, as Coolie, in pre-release earnings through advance bookings and distribution rights, has already raked in approximately ₹100 crore (PKR 380 crore). This indicates fierce competition between the two films.

War 2 is firmly breaking the box office records. The buzz for the movie is in overdrive and fans are going crazy for the performances and action sequences. The film’s success will be largely dependent on the film’s content and how effectively it sustains interest amidst Coolie’s challenge.
