The event was organized under the directives of Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori as a central feature of the multi-day Marka-e-Haq program, designed to mark the lead-up to August 14 with cultural and musical showcases. This free-entry concert drew a crowd estimated at 70,000 attendees, far surpassing expectations. Despite the excitement, the sheer scale of the audience created significant crowd control issues.
Eyewitnesses and social media posts described difficulty entering and exiting the venue, with many areas becoming overcrowded. In the midst of the growing unrest, Atif Aslam paused his performance and ultimately ended the show early. In a rare move, Governor Tessori himself took the stage, urging the audience to cooperate and restore order.
Online reactions were mixed. While many praised the artist’s powerful performance and the symbolic significance of holding such events at iconic venues, others criticized the planning.
Commentators pointed out the lack of scalable entry and exit routes and called for better logistics in future high-attendance events. However, several praised the efforts of police, volunteers, and traffic authorities for preventing any serious incidents under such pressure.
Looking ahead, Atif Aslam is scheduled to perform again on August 13 at the National Stadium Karachi, alongside other celebrated artists.
