India s Punjabi film sector seems to be resisting the Modi government s restrictive approach towards Pakistani artists. Another new example of the resistance comes in the form of the forthcoming film Chal Mera Putt 4, which is just out with its trailer. In spite of the still-on-going ban in India, the movie, featuring a number of Pakistani actors, will see a worldwide release on August 1, excluding India.
The movie features Amrinder Gill along with Pakistani actors Akram Udaas, Nasir Chinyoti, and Iftikhar Thakur. The other important characters are portrayed by Simi Chahal, Hardip Gill, and Gurshabad Singh. The choice of Pakistani actors is being viewed as a deliberate disregard of India s official narrative and policies.

Meanwhile, another movie Sardaar Ji 3, featuring Diljit Dosanjh and Hania Aamir, has shown that popularity knows no political boundaries. Even though it has been banned in India, it has turned out to be the fourth highest-grossing Punjabi movie of all time with ₹64 crore without access to Indian theaters.
While Bollywood celebrities are quiet, several actors are complaining about the Modi government s growing censorship and cultural restrictions. The Punjabi industry, though, is openly taking a more assertive position by still working with Pakistani artists and defying the current trend through their art.
