LAHORE (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s flagship housing initiative, Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar, is rapidly transforming the lives of low-income families across the province.

With over 51,000 families already benefiting and thousands more homes underway, the program is moving steadily toward its goal of constructing 100,000 homes within a year.

More than Rs 57.9 billion interest-free loans have been awarded to deserving beneficiaries. This has helped them build safe houses for their families. 6,160 houses have been completed, and an additional 45,000+ houses are under construction, according to the Secretary of Housing Noor ul Amin Mengal. This showcases the program’s speed and scale in execution.

Program highlights are as follows: over 400,000 complete applications and 728,000 total visits have been recorded on the ACAG portal. Phase I saw 5,000 loans disbursed, and Phase II followed with another 3,000, many of which are nearing completion. To sustain momentum, Punjab has approved another Rs 42.01 billion for the program in the 2025–26 budget.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has often spoken emotionally about the housing drive:
“The state is like a mother, and a mother feels the pain of homeless children more deeply.”
“This initiative is very close to my heart… Seeing the houses built under this program feels as joyous as building a home for myself.”

Eligibility & How to Apply

Managed by the Punjab Housing & Town Planning Agency (PHATA), the scheme provides:

·        Low-income applicants with land up to 5 marla (urban) or 10 marla (rural).

·        Loans up to Rs 1.5 million, repayable over nine years at about Rs 14,000/month.

·        No political recommendations are allowed; it will be strictly based on merit-based selection.

The application process is fully online and user-friendly, allowing citizens from all districts to participate equally.
A dedicated helpline (0800 09100) has also been launched to assist applicants with queries or complaints.

Starting from February 2025, the initiative aims to deliver 20,000 houses with a broader target of 100,000 annually. The scheme continues to expand across urban and rural areas alike. 51,000 families are already positively impacted.

For many struggling families in Punjab, securing a home used to mean endless rent, cramped living, or repeated relocations. Now, thanks to Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar, they are putting down roots. With construction underway, funds allocated, and thousands already handing over keys to their own homes, the program is living up to its name: “own roof, own home.”
