No Eid feels complete without a sweet dish, and Shahi Tukray is a classic, delicious treat loved by everyone.
Ingredients:
- Bread slices: 6–8
- Milk: 1 liter
- Sugar: 1 cup
- Ghee or oil: for frying
- Cardamom powder: ½ tsp
- Kewra essence: 1 tsp (optional)
- Almonds and pistachios: finely chopped
- Silver leaf (optional)
Method:
Fry the bread:
Cut the edges off the bread and slice it into triangles. Fry them in ghee or oil until golden, then remove and keep aside.
Prepare the milk:
Pour milk into a pan and cook on medium heat. When the milk is reduced to half, add sugar and cardamom powder. Mix well.
Make syrup (optional):
You can make a light sugar syrup separately (sugar + water), but most people use the thickened milk for sweetness.
Set the dish:
Place the fried bread slices on a plate and pour warm, thick milk over them so the bread softens completely.
Garnish:
Sprinkle chopped almonds, pistachios, and kewra essence on top. Finish with silver leaf if desired.
Serving tip:
Serve Shahi Tukray chilled—it tastes even better when cool!
