Reports suggest that online shopping in Pakistan is rapidly growing. From groceries and medicines to clothes, shoes, and household items - everything is now just a few clicks away. This digital shift began during the COVID-19 pandemic but has now turned into a long-term lifestyle change.
According to a report by the Asian Development Bank, Pakistanis spent around 10.4 billion US dollars on online shopping in 2024. Most of this spending went toward electronics, fashion, beauty products, and luxury items. Interestingly, online flight ticket booking became the second-largest spending category, generating about 2.3 billion dollars annually.
Even more surprising is the rise of the online travel industry. The trend of booking airline tickets online has grown so much that it now ranks as the second-biggest category in online shopping, earning nearly Rs636,000,000,000 per year. This shows that Pakistanis — across age groups and income levels — are becoming more comfortable with digital services.
Experts believe this shift is powered by the rise of e-commerce platforms, mobile banking apps, and digital payment gateways. They also argue that if the government supports this sector further, it could open the door to more business opportunities, exports, and job creation.

This data reveals a massive behavioral shift in Pakistan’s consumer landscape. No longer limited to the tech-savvy elite, online shopping is now embraced by the middle and upper classes alike. The scale of transactions, particularly in luxury items and travel, reflects rising digital confidence and spending power.
If nurtured properly, this booming sector could transform Pakistan’s economic future, boosting employment and foreign trade — especially if supported through better regulation and digital infrastructure.
