New auto policy: Suzuki Cultus price drops by Rs500,000 in Pakistan?
The proposed Automotive and Auto Parts Policy 2026–31 aims to revise vehicle taxes and import duties, potentially making some cars more affordable for buyers. However, the expected price reduction is not yet confirmed.
Suzuki Cultus price may fall by Rs500,000
According to a news report, the Suzuki Cultus currently costs around Rs4.3 million, but its price could fall to approximately Rs3.8 million during the first year of the proposed policy. This would mean a possible reduction of Rs500,000 if the plan is approved and implemented as proposed.
The estimated price cut could offer relief to people planning to buy the locally assembled hatchback. However, neither the government nor the automaker has officially announced a revised price.
New auto policy awaits IMF and cabinet approval
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the final draft of the five-year automotive policy. The draft will now be sent to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for approval before being presented to the federal cabinet.
The government plans to introduce the required legislation in parliament after the IMF and federal cabinet approve the proposal. Until these steps are completed, the suggested tax changes will not automatically affect showroom prices.
Proposed tax changes could affect car prices
The proposed policy aims to treat hybrid electric vehicles and conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles equally in terms of duties and taxes. This could change the existing tax structure for different types of vehicles.
The draft also proposes reducing customs duty on conventional ICE cars and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) to 15% by 2031, without additional or regulatory duties. The measure forms part of a broader plan to change Pakistan’s vehicle taxation and import system over five years.
Will car buyers actually get lower prices?
If approved, the proposed changes could affect vehicle prices across Pakistan’s automobile market. However, the size of any reduction would depend on each model and the duties and taxes applied to it.
Suzuki Cultus buyers will have to wait for the final decision before expecting any savings. The estimated Rs500,000 reduction remains a possibility, not an officially confirmed price cut.
The proposed auto policy could make the Suzuki Cultus more affordable if the expected tax changes are approved. However, buyers should not assume that the price will fall immediately.
The IMF’s response, federal cabinet approval and new legislation will determine whether the proposed changes take effect. Until then, the expected price of Rs3.8 million remains an estimate.
