(Web Desk): Electric car sales increase by 61% in Pakistan as market trends begin to shift rapidly while the conventional vehicle sales are slowing down.

The latest data shows that total sales of cars, LCVs, vans, and jeeps dropped by 9% compared to the previous month. Sales reached 15,531 units in March, down from 17,121 units in February.

However, when compared to last year, the market still showed strong growth. Sales increased by 40% from 11,113 units recorded in March last year.

Strong growth seen in yearly figures

In the first nine months of FY26, total auto sales reached 144,029 units. This shows a 43% increase compared to 100,736 units in the same period last year.

This growth reflects improving demand in the long term. Despite short-term drops, the overall trend remains positive.

Passenger cars see major decline

The main reason behind the monthly drop was weak passenger car sales. Sales fell by 12% to 11,702 units in March.

Within this category, 1000cc cars saw the biggest decline. Their sales dropped sharply by 36% to just 294 units.

Different car segments show decline

Cars below 1000cc also recorded a fall of 18%, reaching 4,961 units. Meanwhile, 1300cc and above vehicles declined by 6% to 6,447 units.

This shows that demand weakened across multiple segments. Buyers appear to be delaying purchases or shifting preferences.

Electric vehicles show strong growth

In contrast, electric car sales increased significantly by 61%. Sales rose to 53 units from 33 units in February.

Although the total number remains small, the growth is notable. It shows rising interest in electric vehicles in Pakistan.

LCVs and vans show stability

Sales of LCVs, vans, and jeeps remained stable during the month. They increased slightly by 1% to 3,776 units.

This suggests that the decline was mainly limited to passenger cars. Other vehicle categories showed resilience.

Changing trends in Pakistan auto market

The rise in electric car sales highlights a shift in buyer behavior. More people are showing interest in fuel-efficient and eco-friendly options.
