BYD brings 1,500kW ultra-fast EV charging technology to Pakistan?
However, the rollout depends on local infrastructure and future vehicle plans.
BYD Explores 1,500kW Ultra-Fast Charging
BYD Vice President Liu Xueliang said the company was evaluating its next-generation charging technology for Pakistan as part of its expansion plans. The proposed system could offer much faster charging than conventional electric vehicle chargers.
BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery works with its new FLASH Charging system, which can deliver up to 1,500kW through a single connector. However, these charging speeds are available only with compatible vehicles and the required battery technology.
EV Charging Could Take Only Five Minutes
According to BYD, vehicles using the new battery and charging platform can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes. The company also says charging from 10% to 97% can take nine minutes under suitable conditions.
In extremely cold weather, at -30°C, the system can charge a compatible vehicle from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes. These figures apply to BYD’s new technology and do not represent the charging times of every BYD vehicle currently available in Pakistan.
Pakistan Needs the Right Charging Infrastructure
Liu said the introduction of ultra-fast charging in Pakistan would depend on infrastructure readiness, discussions with relevant stakeholders and the company’s future vehicle plans. This means the technology may not become available immediately, even if the company decides to introduce it.
Existing BYD vehicles could use future charging infrastructure, but they would not necessarily support the maximum charging speeds. The fastest rates would require vehicles designed to work with BYD’s newer battery platform.
A powerful charger alone cannot guarantee faster charging for every electric vehicle. Actual charging speed depends on the battery, vehicle design and maximum charging rate supported by the car.
BYD’s Local Assembly Plant Targets 2026 Start
BYD is also preparing to begin local vehicle assembly in Pakistan during the second half of 2026. Liu said the company’s assembly facility is targeted to start operations during that period.
The plant is designed to produce around 25,000 vehicles annually, with the capacity to expand to 50,000 units a year. The planned charging network could support BYD’s wider expansion as it brings more electric and electrified vehicles to Pakistan.
BYD’s proposed ultra-fast charging technology could make electric vehicles more convenient for Pakistani drivers. However, its introduction will depend on the availability of suitable charging stations and compatible vehicles.
The planned local assembly facility could also support the company’s long-term growth in Pakistan. For now, the charging technology remains under consideration, and no confirmed local launch date has been announced.
