LAHORE: (Suno News) The Punjab government has given in-principle approval to the project of providing solar panels to power consumers consuming up to 500 units of electricity.

Senior provincial minister Marriyum Aurangzeb uploaded a post on the social media website X, stating that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has called a cabinet meeting today (July 9) to approve the ‘Roshan Gharana’ programme of providing solar panels to the people.

The Punjab cabinet will give formal approval to the solar panels project today. The provincial government will provide solar panels to hundreds of thousands of power consumers consuming 50 to 500 units of electricity.

The government will pay 90 percent of the cost of solar panels while 10 percent will be paid by the consumer. The solar panels will be provided to consumers in five-year easy installments.

In winter, the installment of solar panels will be relatively less. The solar panels will be provided by the government only.

According to the needs of the user, the rate can be determined between the government electricity and the electricity obtained from the solar panel.

In view of the rising cost of electricity and the energy crisis, the government decided to start the ‘Roshan Gharana’ programme.

Under a transparent procedure, solar panels will be given to the poorest families in the first phase.
