Railways Ministry to abolish over 5,000 posts
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): As part of the government’s initiative of rightsizing, the Ministry of Railways said that it would abolish more than five thousand posts.

According to reports, the Ministry of Railways has already eliminated 17,101 posts. It will axe more 5,695 posts. The Ministry revealed that 15,000 additional posts are planned to be removed anytime soon.

The ministry officials made these claims during a briefing to the Cabinet Committee on Rightsising of the federal government, which reviewed the Ministry of Railways’ rightsizing plan.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb presided over the meeting where he reviewed the ongoing progress on the implementation of rightsizing measures across federal ministries.

Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Ali Parvez Malik, Members of National Assembly, federal secretaries, and senior officers from relevant ministries and division attended the meeting.

The Establishment Division updated the chair on the confirmations received from 29 ministries and one constitutional body regarding the abolition of 11,877 posts and 4,660 dying posts.

The Ministry of Railways presented a detailed overview of its rightsizing initiatives. The finance minister praised the implementation of the committee s decisions and recognized the efforts of the ministries and departments involved.

For further review and implementation of the proposed measures, the committee decided to refer the case to the Sub-Committee on Rightsizing.

The chair directed the officials to implement rightsizing measures across the federal ministries in different phases.

During the fourth wave, the government has already announced that five ministries — including the Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Revenue Division, and Petroleum Division — along with their attached departments, will undergo rightsizing.

Earlier, Aurangzeb announced the elimination of 150,000 vacant posts, while committing to complete the rightsizing of 43 ministries and their 400 attached departments by the end of the current fiscal year.
