NEPRA slashes power tariff by 75 paisa per unit
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has slashed power tariff under Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA) mechanism.

The regulatory body reduced power tariff by 75 paisa per unit for consumers of all power distribution companies (DISCOs). The authority decreased 49 paisa per unit for consumers of K-Electric for November and October.

Earlier, Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) requested the decrease 63 paisa per unit decrease in FCA for November 2024 to the power regulatory. Whereas K-Electric sought 27 paisa per unit cut in the tariff for October 2024.

As per the notification, the Authority reduced the tariff 75 paisa and 49 paisa per unit respectively for the DISCOs and K-Electric for two months.

The current decrease in rates would be applicable to all the consumer categories except lifeline consumers, domestic consumers consuming up-to 300 units, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), Prepaid electricity consumers of all categories who adopted pre-paid tariff and agriculture Consumers of all the XWDISCOs.

Earlier in December, PM Shehbaz Sharif directed the authority to reduce in power tariff. He also emphasised the shifting of existing energy sources to renewable energy sources. PM Sharif instructed officials to expedite reforms in the sector, calling for strict action against officers deliberately impeding these reforms.
