The Ministry of Food Security says that this step is taken to maintain a balance in sugar prices. The method of importing sugar represents a different and better strategy than in the past. In the past, subsidies were often relied on by creating artificial shortages of sugar.

According to the Ministry of Food Security, the decision to export sugar was made at a time when sugar was available in abundance, but now sugar is being imported to stabilize sugar prices.
On the other hand, the price of sugar in wholesales in Karachi is Rs179 per kilogram, and after Ashura, the price of sugar in wholesales has increased by Rs3 per kilogram.
The price of sugar in wholesale markets in Karachi has increased by Rs13 per kilogram since May 15, and in the retail market, sugar is being sold for Rs190 to Rs200 per kilogram.
On May 15, sugar was being sold at retail level in Karachi for Rs170, and now the retail price of sugar has increased by Rs20 to 30 per kilogram.
