NEPRA had conducted a hearing on April 4 regarding the federal government s request for a price cut and had reserved its decision, which has now been sent to the federal government.
According to NEPRA s notification, a reduction of Rs1.71 per unit in electricity prices has been approved. The government will provide subsidies to all consumers except for lifeline users of DISCOs and K-Electric.
The notification further states that this subsidy will be provided to consumers from April to June, resulting in a relief of Rs 58 billion.
It is worth noting that the federal government had decided to transfer the relief from petroleum levy collections to electricity consumers.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a reduction of Rs7.41 per unit for domestic consumers and Rs7.59 per unit for industrial consumers, offering further relief to the public.
