(Suno News) In Pakistan, banking fraud is on the rise, with scammers becoming increasingly sophisticated. If you've ever received a call from someone claiming to be from your bank and asking to share your screen, you're not alone.

These scams are targeting countless people, tricking them into revealing sensitive information that leaves their bank accounts vulnerable.

Google’s Smart New Tool to Combat Fraud

But now, Google is taking action. The tech giant is developing a smart feature designed to spot these scams before they cause serious harm. Currently in beta testing, this new tool is already available on Google Pixel phones and will soon be rolled out to Android devices with the next update. Think of it as an automatic scam detector, warning you of suspicious calls that could be a ploy to empty your bank account.

How Google’s Scam Detection Tool Works

How does it work? It’s all about recognizing patterns. Google’s tool monitors two key things:

You’re receiving a call from an unknown number.

During that call, you re using your banking app.

When both conditions are met, Google steps in with a pop-up warning, alerting you that the call may be a scam. This gives you a chance to hang up or report the call immediately. The feature, known as BankScamCallDetectionService, is already part of Google Play Services version 25.18.31. For Pixel users, it might already be active.

The Evolving Tactics of Fraudsters

Fraudsters have been evolving their tactics rapidly. Now, they impersonate bank staff, claiming that your account has been compromised and asking you to open your banking app. From there, they ask to share your screen, allowing them to access everything you do, including your PIN and account details. The result? Your bank account is emptied, and you re left with nothing.

Other Forms of Scams Targeting Pakistanis

These scams aren’t limited to phone calls either. Fraudulent links are appearing on WhatsApp, emails disguised as Gmail security alerts, and even fake offers in popular games like Fortnite. The goal is the same: to steal your personal information.

A Step Towards Enhanced Security for Users

Google’s new feature isn’t a foolproof solution, but it’s a significant step forward in fighting these scams. By tracking your phone activity and app usage, it adds another level of security, especially for elderly users and those less familiar with technology, who are often targeted by fraudsters. Even the most tech-savvy among us can be caught off guard by scammers who know exactly how to play on emotions and timing.

Tips for Protecting Yourself from Scams

For now, the best advice remains: never share your screen with anyone during a call, be wary of unknown numbers — even if they claim to be from your bank — and always call your bank directly if something feels off.
