The US State Department emphasized that the Kashmir issue remains a direct matter between the two South Asian neighbors and should be settled through negotiations rather than confrontation.
In its recent statement, the State Department said, “The United States, if mediation is offered on the Kashmir dispute, we are ready. The Kashmir issue can be resolved through negotiations. The United States provided assistance in the ceasefire between Pakistan and India.” The remarks highlight Washington’s willingness to step in if both Islamabad and New Delhi consent to third-party involvement.
Officials also thanked Pakistan for its initiative in extraditing terrorists, specifically noting the extradition of a suspect involved in the killing of American citizens. The statement described the move as a “good start” toward strengthening bilateral relations between Washington and Islamabad.
