(Web Desk): The Norwegian Nobel Committee on Friday announced the winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.

The award is given to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado for her relentless struggle to restore democracy in Venezuela through peaceful means.

Machado was recognized for her “uncompromising dedication to freedom, justice, and human rights,” with the committee describing her as a symbol of courage and hope for millions of Venezuelans enduring years of political repression and economic hardship.

Founder of the political movement Vente Venezuela, Machado has been a central voice against authoritarian rule, advocating for nonviolent resistance despite facing arrests, threats, and repeated bans from public office.

“The Committee wishes to highlight her role in inspiring hope and mobilizing civic participation under one of Latin America’s most repressive regimes,” the Nobel statement read.

In her response, Machado expressed deep gratitude and humility, dedicating the award to “the brave Venezuelans who refuse to give up on freedom.”

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize shines a global spotlight on Venezuela’s ongoing democratic struggle and Latin America’s broader fight for human rights and political freedom.
