(Web Desk): From just a few paisas per litre to hundreds of rupees, Pakistan’s petrol prices have seen a dramatic transformation over the past 78 years.

In 1947, shortly after independence, petrol cost a mere Rs. 0.23 per litre, a figure almost unimaginable today. By 1965, the price had risen to Rs. 0.40, and in 1972, it touched the symbolic mark of Rs. 1.00 per litre.

The 1980s and 1990s saw gradual but steady increases, with prices reaching Rs. 3.50 in 1981 and Rs. 9.00 by 1991. The 2000s brought a sharper rise, with petrol priced at Rs. 28.23 in 2000 and nearly doubling to Rs. 55.00 in 2005. By 2010, it stood at Rs. 70.00, crossing the Rs. 100 barrier in 2013.
