(Web Desk): Shawwal moon sighting in Saudi Arabia has begun as authorities urged Muslims to look for the crescent, deciding the date of Eidul Fitr.

In Saudi Arabia, the Supreme Court has called on all Muslims to sight the Shawwal moon today. People have been asked to look for the moon with the naked eye or through telescopes and report any sighting to the nearest court.

Officials said that anyone who sees the moon should register their testimony properly so the final decision can be made according to Islamic traditions.

It is important to note that Ramadan started on February 18 in Saudi Arabia and most Arab countries. If the moon is not sighted today, Thursday will complete 30 days of Ramadan, and Eidul Fitr will be celebrated on March 20.

Meanwhile, in Pakistan, the moon sighting will take place tomorrow. Meetings of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and zonal committees will be held in Islamabad, while provincial committees will meet at their respective headquarters.

According to SUPARCO, there is little chance of sighting the Shawwal moon on March 19 in Pakistan. The agency said the new moon will be born at 6:23am, but its age at sunset will be about 12 hours and 41 minutes, which is not enough for visibility.

Experts added that the time difference between sunset and moonset in coastal areas will be around 28 minutes, making sighting difficult.

Based on these estimates, Eidul Fitr in Pakistan is likely to fall on March 21. However, the final announcement will be made by Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman Maulana Syed Abdul Khabir Azad after reviewing moon sighting reports.
