(Web Desk): Iran's Revolutionary Guards say a tanker caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz and warn no oil vessels will pass without Tehran's approval.

Iran has claimed control of the Strait of Hormuz after reporting an oil tanker explosion, warning that no vessel will be allowed to pass without coordination with Tehran.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said an oil tanker caught fire following an explosion while attempting to pass through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz near the coast of Oman. According to Iranian state media, two other commercial vessels immediately changed course and turned back after the incident.

The IRGC claimed that all three ships were following US guidance and attempted to use a route in the southern part of the strait that it described as containing naval mines. However, the statement did not provide evidence to support the allegation, and there has been no independent verification of the claims.

In a strongly worded statement, the Revolutionary Guards declared that the Strait of Hormuz remains under Iran's control. They warned that the strategic waterway would remain completely closed as long as the United States continues what Tehran describes as aggressive military actions in the region.

The IRGC further stated that no oil tanker would be permitted to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz without prior coordination with Iranian authorities. It also warned that any vessel attempting to transit the route without communicating with Iran would face the same consequences as the tanker involved in the explosion.

The latest statement comes as tensions between Iran and the United States continue to rise, increasing concerns over the security of one of the world's most important oil shipping routes. Analysts warn that any disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could significantly affect global energy supplies and push international oil prices even higher.
