(Web Desk): Iran and Russia have signed a $25 billion agreement to expand nuclear cooperation and strengthen strategic energy and economic partnerships.

Iran and Russia have signed a $25 billion memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in the nuclear sector, marking a significant expansion of strategic ties between the two countries.

The agreement aims to expand Iran’s nuclear infrastructure and strengthen long-term collaboration in peaceful nuclear energy development. Officials say the deal will further deepen strategic relations between Tehran and Moscow.

The announcement was made during an online conference held in Moscow, where officials and experts from both countries participated. Iran’s Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, addressed the session and highlighted key joint projects in the energy sector.

He said the expansion of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant and the Hormoz project are among the most important bilateral initiatives in the field of peaceful nuclear energy cooperation. According to him, the Bushehr plant is currently operational, while its second and third units are under construction.

Jalali described the $25 billion Hormoz project as Iran’s largest nuclear initiative, being developed in cooperation between Iran’s private sector and Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom.

He also pointed to potential joint projects in small-scale nuclear power plants, expressing hope that these initiatives would soon move into the implementation phase.

Beyond nuclear cooperation, the ambassador mentioned expanding Russian gas transit through Iran and increasing trade links with Eurasian countries as growing areas of collaboration between the two nations.

He further thanked Russia for its political support in international forums and emphasized the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation in energy, transport, advanced technologies, and economic development.

Experts say the agreement reflects deepening geopolitical alignment between Tehran and Moscow amid shifting global energy and security dynamics.
