Lebanon’s Iranian-backed group Hezbollah has declared that it is ready for a “long war” against Israel, its senior leader Naim Qassem said in a televised address.
Qassem warned that Israel would face unexpected challenges on the battlefield, emphasizing Hezbollah’s preparedness for an extended confrontation. His remarks come amid rising tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border, where a series of cross-border attacks have been exchanged since March 2.
The escalation followed airstrikes by Hezbollah on Israeli positions, reportedly in response to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Hezbollah claims the strikes were retaliation and a demonstration of the group’s operational capabilities.
In response, Israel has carried out heavy bombardment across southern Lebanon, stating that it is targeting Hezbollah strongholds to weaken the group’s military infrastructure. Both sides have warned of potential further escalation if hostilities continue.

Analysts say the conflict signals a dangerous regional flashpoint, with Iran’s backing of Hezbollah adding a broader geopolitical dimension. Civilians in southern Lebanon and northern Israel have faced disruptions due to the ongoing airstrikes, raising concerns of humanitarian impact.
Hezbollah’s statements highlight its long-term strategy against Israel, signaling that the organization is prepared for sustained military engagement. International observers continue to monitor the situation closely, urging restraint and calling for dialogue to prevent a full-scale conflict.
