(Web Desk): Hamas rejects disarmament calls, linking them to Israel’s continued attacks in Gaza.

Hamas has firmly rejected demands to lay down its weapons, describing such calls as equivalent to prolonging what it terms Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. Speaking to Arab media, spokesperson Abu Ubaida emphasized that discussions on disarmament cannot proceed until Israel fully implements the first phase of a ceasefire in Gaza.

Abu Ubaida criticized the framing of the disarmament issue, stating that raising the topic in a “blunt or crude manner” is unacceptable. He argued that forcing Hamas to give up its weapons under the current conditions would amount to continuing violence against the Palestinian population.

The statements come amid ongoing negotiations surrounding a 20-point peace plan proposed by Donald Trump, which aims to end hostilities between Israel and Hamas. One of the major obstacles in these discussions has been Hamas’ refusal to disarm, a point that has repeatedly stalled progress in the peace talks mediated by the United States and Qatar.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, despite the ceasefire agreement brokered in October, Israeli attacks have resulted in over 705 Palestinian deaths. Analysts warn that continued deadlock over disarmament could further escalate tensions, undermining both humanitarian relief efforts and broader regional stability.

Observers say that until both sides address the core security concerns and implement ceasefire measures fully, meaningful dialogue on disarmament and peace is unlikely to advance.
