The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has successfully rolled out the Riyadh Metro, with the Orange Line officially starting operations. This signifies the full launch of all six lines in the extensive Riyadh Metro network, improving connectivity throughout the city.
On November 27, 2024, the operation plan was set out during the inauguration of Riyadh Metro. The Orange Line, which is also called Line 3, spans 41 kilometers. It connects the eastern and western sectors of Riyadh. It links Jeddah Road in the west to the second eastern ring road near the Khashm Al Aan area in the east.
Starting its operation, the Orange Line, on Sunday, welcomed passengers at five stations including Jeddah Road, Tuwaiq, Douh, Harun Al-Rashid Road, and Al-Naseem.
Additionally, the RCRC has rolled out three new stations on the Blue Line, which links Olaya Street to Batha with addition of two stations, Al Morooj, Bank Al Bilad, and King Fahd Library.
The Riyadh Metro began its phased operations in December 2024, launching with the Blue, Yellow, and Purple Lines on December 1, followed by the Red and Green Lines on December 15.
The metro network stretches 176 kilometers, featuring 85 stations including four major hubs. It has established itself as the largest metro system in the Middle East and the longest driverless train network in the world.
Running daily from 6 am to midnight, the Riyadh Metro provides passengers with the convenience of digital ticket purchases via the Darb app, ticket offices, or self-service kiosks. Payment options, including credit cards, bank transfers, and mobile devices, ensure smooth and accessible travel for both residents and visitors throughout the city.
