GAZA: (Web Desk) Palestinian families flee Gaza City’s Shujayea neighbourhood as Israeli tanks move killing 47 Palestinians and wounding 52 others in the past 24-hour reporting period.

Israeli forces began a surprise assault on Gaza City’s Shujayea neighbourhood, according to Al Jazeera.

In a statement, Hamas said the assault has led to “a number of martyrs and has forced thousands of Palestinians to flee under the pressure of ongoing shelling of the defenseless civilians”.

“This is a continuation of the fascist occupation government’s genocide against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, with the full support of the American administration, which is a partner in these crimes.”

Hamas added that the repeated attack on “cities, camps and districts, and the deliberate killing of civilians and the destruction of infrastructure” was part of a “fascist policy” to increase the suffering of Palestinians.

“We confirm that these Israeli crimes and these Nazi occupation policies will only increase the determination of our Palestinian people to remain steadfast on their land, and to challenge the occupation and its plans,” the group said.

They added that they would continue to “inflict heavy losses” on Israel’s army until the “aggression is stopped and expelled from our land”.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees says people “desperately need healthcare”.

“Only a fraction of UNRWA health centres are operational. Safe and sustained aid access can’t wait any longer.”

Hospitals in Gaza, which have been crippled by months of Israeli attacks and a blockade, have appealed for help as they struggle to treat thousands of patients.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) says 18 ambulances, or 36 percent of its fleet, have stopped operating in Gaza because of a lack of fuel.

In a statement posted on X, the organisation said it hasn’t received its daily share of petrol from the UN for more than a week.

“This share previously covered only 6 percent of the operational capacity of the ambulances, as the Israeli occupation has prevented fuel from entering the Gaza Strip,” it said.

“As a result, the PRCS warns of a decline in its ability to provide ambulance and emergency services in the coming days due to the fuel shortage, with the Israeli occupation continuing to keep the Rafah border crossing closed for about 52 days.”

Israel says it doesn’t want war in Lebanon but could send its neighbour “back to the Stone Age” and a conflict would be “potentially apocalyptic”.

“We do not want war, but we are preparing for every scenario,” Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant told reporters in Washington, DC. “Hezbollah understands very well that we can inflict massive damage in Lebanon if a war is launched.”
