ISTANBUL: (Web Desk) A Turkish man has been arrested by police for selling fake zamzam water and earning millions of dollars.

According to media reports, the suspect admitted to his crime, stating that none of his customers complained about the adulterated water. He claimed that most of the counterfeit water sold in large cities like Istanbul came from his warehouse.

The man, identified as Bilal, confessed to selling fake zamzam water in the Turkish city of Adana. The incident came to light when the police in Adana received a tip-off about fraudulent activities at a water factory. Turkish authorities revealed that around 20 tonnes of counterfeit water were being produced daily in the fake zamzam operation. Bilal made approximately $22,000 daily from this illegal business.

When police raided the suspect’s warehouse, they found 5,000 liters of tap water, which had been bottled with fake labels, making it appear authentic. The labels included Arabic script and references to Saudi Arabia, tricking customers into believing the water was genuine.

The suspect claimed he mixed a small amount of authentic zamzam water with the counterfeit water, which he obtained from vehicles of people arriving from Saudi Arabia. He further stated that no customer had ever complained about the water before the police raid.
