(Web Desk): Australia will close the Afghan embassy after June 2026, refusing to recognise or accept Taliban-appointed diplomats.

Australia has announced the closure of the Afghan embassy, rejecting Taliban diplomats and recognition after June 2026.

The Australian government has confirmed that the Afghan embassy in Canberra will cease operations after June 2026. The decision was announced by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which said no representatives appointed by the Taliban, including any honorary consul, will be accepted.

In an official statement, the department said the Taliban regime’s non-democratic and violent policies have pushed Afghanistan into growing international isolation. Australia has made it clear that it does not recognise the Taliban as the legitimate representatives of the Afghan people.

According to an Australian media report, the government has formally refused to acknowledge the Taliban administration as the lawful authority of Afghanistan. Canberra also strongly criticised the regime over alleged human rights violations and restrictions on freedom of expression and dissent.

The Refugee Council of Australia expressed concern about the situation inside Afghanistan. The council said many Afghan citizens are fearful of approaching Taliban-controlled institutions to obtain essential documents, reflecting deep mistrust and insecurity within the country.

The closure of the embassy marks a significant diplomatic shift and highlights Australia’s tough stance on the Taliban government. The move is expected to impact Afghan nationals living in Australia who rely on consular services, though officials have not yet detailed alternative arrangements.
