NEW DELHI (Web Desk): Sonam Wangchuk's hunger strike could end soon, but only if the government guarantees that students involved in the India Jantar Mantar protest will face no legal or retaliatory action.

Indian social activist and engineer Sonam Wangchuk has said he is willing to end the Sonam Wangchuk hunger strike if the government provides a clear written assurance that no action will be taken against students participating in the India Jantar Mantar protest.

In a letter addressed to federal ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh, Sonam Wangchuk thanked the government for considering his demands.

However, he stressed that students need more than promises and deserve complete protection before the Sonam Wangchuk hunger strike can end.

He also demanded compensation for the families of students who reportedly died by suicide following the NEET paper leak controversy.

According to him, the NEET paper leak exposed serious weaknesses in the education system and deserves a full parliamentary debate.

Sonam Wangchuk said he wants to return to working for students and educational reforms.

However, he added that ending the protest without securing justice for young people involved in the India Jantar Mantar protest would go against the purpose of the movement.

He said that if the government officially confirms that no student will face legal action or harassment, he will immediately call off the Sonam Wangchuk hunger strike. Otherwise, the indefinite protest will continue.

The latest statement has once again brought attention to the NEET paper leak, the growing Indian student protests, and the demands for greater transparency in India's education system.

Many observers believe the government's response will determine whether the India Jantar Mantar protest continues or comes to an end.
