BEIJING: (Web Desk) China is preparing to open the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge this June — a record-breaking marvel stretching two miles across a vast canyon, The Metro reports.

The £216 million (₹2200 crore) megaproject will cut travel time from one hour to just one minute, marking a monumental leap in infrastructure and efficiency.

Soaring 2050 feet above the ground, the bridge towers more than 200 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower and weighs roughly three times more, making it the tallest bridge in the world upon opening.

Chinese politician Zhang Shenglin hailed the project as a "superstructure spanning the ‘Earth’s crack,’" calling it a symbol of China’s engineering prowess and a catalyst for Guizhou province’s ambition to become a world-class tourism hub.

Newly released footage shows the finishing touches being applied, with its massive 22,000-metric-ton steel trusses — equivalent to three Eiffel Towers — installed in just two months.

"Witnessing my work become something tangible – watching the bridge grow day by day and finally stand tall above the canyon – gives me a profound sense of achievement and pride."

Beyond its role as a vital transport link in this remote part of China, the bridge is expected to draw tourists from around the world. Planners have announced additional attractions including residential zones, a glass walkway, and what could be the world’s highest bungee jump.

The Huajiang region, known for its rugged terrain, already boasts nearly half of the world s 100 tallest bridges, all built to connect isolated communities and now forming a network of architectural triumphs across the landscape.
