Donald Trump has expressed frustration over lack of global support in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, criticizing allies and issuing strong warnings.
Speaking at the Oval Office, Trump said the US has long supported NATO, spending billions on its defense, but claimed the alliance failed to stand by Washington when needed. He also voiced disappointment with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, saying his offer of military support came too late.
Trump made bold claims about Iran, stating the US had effectively dismantled the Iran regime’s military strength. He said Iranian naval vessels laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz were destroyed and that Iran’s air and naval defenses had been eliminated.
He urged countries dependent on oil passing through the strait to step forward, noting that China, Japan, and South Korea rely heavily on the route. Trump called on them to deploy naval forces to secure it.

The US president further claimed that Iran lacks leadership capable of negotiations and suggested its top leadership may no longer be alive. He accused previous Iranian leaders of deceiving the American public.
On nuclear concerns, Trump said “violent people” should not possess atomic weapons, warning that Iran would have used such weapons against the US if it had them.
When asked about the war’s timeline, Trump said it could end soon but gave no clear date.
