Iran assures US no tolls at Strait of Hormuz: Trump
Trump says Iran assured the US that no tolls will be charged on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The statement comes as the United States and Iran continue discussions following a recent round of negotiations in Switzerland. While both countries signed a framework agreement aimed at reducing tensions and ending regional conflict, differences remain over several key issues.
According to reports, Washington and Tehran have presented differing views on matters including financial incentives for Iran, control of the Strait of Hormuz, and Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon. Trump shared Iran’s message in a social media post, saying Tehran had informed Washington that reports claiming Iran planned to charge ships passing through the Strait were incorrect.
Quoting the message, Trump said Iran assured the United States that there would be “NO TOLLS, NO INSURANCE COSTS, & NO OTHER CHARGES OF ANY KIND” imposed on vessels using the vital shipping route.
However, the US president also issued a strong warning. He said that if Iran’s statement proved to be false, negotiations between the two countries would end immediately.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important maritime corridors, with a significant share of global oil and energy supplies passing through the narrow waterway every day. Trump has faced criticism at home over the agreement with Iran, including opposition from hardliners within his Republican Party. Critics have questioned whether the deal adequately protects US interests and regional allies.
Despite the criticism, diplomatic efforts between the two countries continue, with global markets and regional governments closely monitoring the outcome of the negotiations and their potential impact on stability in the Middle East.
