The United States has announced its withdrawal from the United Nations agency UNESCO, accusing it of promoting anti-Israel sentiment.
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce says that continuing to participate in UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is not in the national interest of the United States.

The US claims that UNESCO promotes discriminatory policies at the social and cultural levels. The organization also promotes an ideological agenda that is at odds with its America First foreign policy.
Spokesperson Timmy Bruce said that UNESCO s recognition of a Palestinian state is a serious issue that runs counter to US policy and has become a means of spreading anti-Israel sentiment within the organization.
The spokesperson clarified that US participation in global organizations will be based on the policy of advancing US interests.
The US withdrawal from UNESCO will take effect on December 21, 2026. The US has officially informed UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay of its decision.
This will be the second time that the Trump administration is withdrawing from UNESCO.
It should be remembered that UNESCO made Palestine a member of the organization in October 2011, after which the United States, during the Obama administration, immediately stopped the organization s $60 million in aid.
