WhatsApp has introduced a new update that could make chats easier to recognize for users. The new WhatsApp photo privacy feature allows the app to show a contact’s saved address book photo when their actual WhatsApp profile picture is hidden or missing.
According to reports, this feature does not change the real profile picture of the user. Instead, it only shows the image already saved in your phone’s contact list.
This means if someone has hidden their profile picture through privacy settings or has not uploaded one at all, WhatsApp may still show the photo you have saved for them in your mobile contacts.
The update is expected to help users quickly identify people in individual chats and group conversations, especially when many users do not use profile pictures.

The feature also works for users who choose not to keep a public photo on the app, while still allowing familiar contact photos to appear on personal devices.
Reports suggest the feature is currently rolling out to some iPhone beta users, although a wider release may follow later.
