The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a fresh warning to citizens about fraudulent courier messages being used to target mobile users and steal sensitive information.

According to the authority, scammers often impersonate well-known courier companies and send fake delivery texts or emails designed to appear genuine. Similar scams have previously prompted users to provide verification codes, creating risks of unauthorised access.

Suspicious links and OTP requests

PTA said fraudulent messages may ask recipients to click suspicious links, pay delivery charges or share their one-time passwords (OTPs). Users could be exposed to data theft or financial losses if they follow such instructions.

The authority urged citizens not to click or share suspicious links and to avoid providing personal or financial information before verifying the message through an official source.

PTA urges users to stay vigilant

PTA has repeatedly advised mobile users to remain alert against digital fraud and phishing attempts. It has also warned that scammers may impersonate banks, government agencies and courier services to obtain confidential information.

The authority further advised citizens to purchase SIM cards only from authorised franchises or registered outlets and ensure that each SIM is registered in their own name.
