LAHORE (Web Desk): YouTube has announced a new policy to limit the monetization of content created using artificial intelligence (AI).

On July 15, the company will update its YouTube Partner Program (YPP) monetization policies. The policies will outline what kind of content will be eligible to earn money on the platform.

Although YouTube has not yet clarified or shared the full details of these changes, it has been made clear that creators will need to upload original or authentic content in order to monetize.

Rene Ritchie, Head of Editorial and Creator Liaison at YouTube, explained that the updates are minor tweaks to existing policies. The main aim, he said, is to identify and restrict content that is mass-produced or repeatedly recycled—types of content that are already considered spam and not eligible for monetization.

AI-generated videos often rely on AI voices, reused images, and video clips.

Moreover, channels focusing on AI-created music or AI-driven news have gained millions of followers. These channels upload fake videos and garner a lot of views and attention online, leading to a significant amount of following.

YouTube wants to prevent users who use fake AI-generated content from earning money through the YouTube Partner Program and protect its credibility as well.

This step reflects YouTube’s commitment to maintaining quality standards and ensuring that monetization rewards genuine creativity and originality.
