The internet users started posting their messages on social media platform ‘X,’ after being thrilled to see that services of the app had been restored after nine months.
It may be recalled that after the last general elections, held in February, 2024, services of ‘X’ were suspended. Later, the services remained suspended for many months. Many social media users, and netizens repeatedly complained about its suspension. The human rights activists flayed the government’s move to block the social media application, which was a source of information and could serve as a medium to counter ‘fake news.’ A few activists filed petition against its suspension but in vain. The ministers defended its suspension, citing the reason of establishing law and order in the country.
However, its services restored on Tuesday in an abrupt move in parts of the country.
This development comes after staging protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Islamabad. PTI supporters reached Islamabad in response to their party’s imprisoned founder Imran Khan’s ‘final call’ for his release. PTI founder is serving his sentence in Adiala jail. Under this scenario, importance of services of restoration of X (twitter) has mounted as protesters are making trends on social media.
According to the media reports, many users report that they have an access to their X accounts without using any Virtual Private Network (VPN). Whereas, some netizens complained that they were facing difficulty in using other social media applications, WhatsApp and Instagram.
