Have you ever missed an unread message on WhatsApp because you forgot to check it later? That will not be a problem anymore, as the app is going to introduce a reminder notification feature for users.
This new feature will be available in a future update, but beta testers can already try it out in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.25.29 update, now accessible on the Google Play Store, according to WABetaInfo.
Previously limited to status updates, WhatsApp’s chat notification feature will now allow users to receive reminders for unread messages from specific contacts, automatically selected by the app.
The selection is based on an internal algorithm that prioritises contacts with whom users interact the most. However, it is important to note that this algorithm applies only to the current WhatsApp instance. If a user reinstalls the app, WhatsApp will need to recalculate these interactions, as the data is not saved in backups or on the server.
As for the reminder functionality, users will get a notification if they leave a message unread from a frequently contacted person. For example, if you regularly chat with someone but miss one of their messages, WhatsApp will notify you about it.
This feature aims to deliver relevant reminders without being intrusive as WhatsApp does not want to pile up the notifications.
While the feature is currently available to beta testers, other users can expect it to roll out to more people in the coming days.
