PTA warns public against fake calls and phishing scams

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public alert, warning citizens about a surge in phishing scams involving individuals impersonating the authority to steal personal information.

In its advisory, the PTA clarified that it does not contact individuals via phone, email, or text to request sensitive data, including passwords, OTPs, or login credentials.

“PTA will never ask for your personal details, passwords, or OTPs via call, email, or message. Stay alert and protect your information,” the statement emphasized.

The authority urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid interacting with suspicious messages, calls, or links. Sharing personal data with unknown sources can lead to serious risks, it warned.

·        To help combat these scams, the PTA shared official contact points for reporting:

·        To block scam numbers: Call 0800-55055 (PTA Toll-Free)

·        To report fraud for investigation: Call 1991 (FIA)

·        For financial scams: Call (021) 111-723-273 (State Bank of Pakistan)

The PTA also stressed the importance of immediately reporting any suspicious activity to prevent the spread of fraudulent schemes and protect others from falling victim.
