Apple has officially launched the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone and one of the company’s biggest smartphone design changes in years. The book-style device opens into a 7.6-inch inner display while using a 5.4-inch screen when closed.

The foldable iPhone is designed to combine the convenience of a regular smartphone with the larger workspace of a tablet. Its wider display supports side-by-side apps, gaming, video viewing and other multitasking activities.

iPhone Duo display and design

The iPhone Duo uses a passport-style design with two ProMotion displays supporting refresh rates of up to 120Hz. Apple says the inner display is the largest ever fitted to an iPhone and uses a special surface designed to reduce glare and make the fold less noticeable.

The device features a titanium structure, Ceramic Shield protection and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Instead of Face ID, Apple has moved to Touch ID integrated into the side button.

The foldable also supports Apple Pencil, giving users another way to work on the larger screen.

A20 Pro chip powers iPhone Duo

The iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s A20 Pro chip, built on a 2-nanometer process. The chip is paired with an advanced thermal system and vapor chamber to support demanding tasks such as gaming, multitasking and on-device AI.

The phone runs iOS 27, which has been adapted for the foldable design. Users can move between the outer and inner displays while using new multitasking features.

Cameras and Apple Intelligence

The iPhone Duo has a dual 48MP rear camera system and an under-display front camera. Apple has also introduced foldable-specific camera features, including the ability to use the outer screen as a preview when taking photos with the rear cameras.

Apple Intelligence is also supported, with on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for more demanding AI requests.

iPhone Duo price and availability

The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for the 256GB version, while storage options extend up to 2TB. Apple says pre-orders will begin on October 16, with the phone going on sale on October 23.

The launch puts Apple directly into competition with Samsung and other major foldable phone makers, but its premium price makes the Duo one of the most expensive mainstream smartphones available.
