(Web Desk): Google has announced a major Android Auto update featuring a redesigned interface, YouTube playback, immersive navigation, widgets, Dolby Atmos, and deeper Gemini AI integration.

Google has introduced one of the biggest updates ever for Android Auto, bringing major visual changes and smarter AI-powered features aimed at improving the in-car experience for drivers.

Better support for modern car screens

The updated Android Auto system can now adapt more effectively to different display sizes and unusual screen shapes used by modern vehicles. Google demonstrated support for round screens in Mini vehicles, curved displays in Lucid cars, and trapezoid-shaped screens in BMW models.

The redesigned layout uses floating controls and expanded screen coverage, reducing unused black spaces and making the interface cleaner and easier to use while driving.

Widgets and immersive navigation

Google is also adding interactive widgets that can appear directly over Google Maps. Drivers will be able to access contacts, weather, calendar events, and smart home shortcuts without leaving navigation mode.

The company also introduced “Immersive Navigation,” which adds detailed 3D buildings, lane markings, traffic lights, and road structures to Maps for easier route guidance.

YouTube and Dolby Atmos support

For the first time, Android Auto will support YouTube playback while vehicles are parked. Videos will automatically disappear once the vehicle starts moving, although background audio may continue for supported apps.

Google also confirmed Dolby Atmos support for compatible vehicles and music apps, including Spotify and YouTube Music.

Gemini AI integration expands

The update introduces deeper integration with Gemini, allowing drivers to perform voice-based tasks such as replying to messages, finding meeting locations, or placing food orders through supported apps.

Industry experts say the update strengthens Android Auto’s competition with Apple CarPlay as automakers increasingly focus on software-driven vehicle experiences.
