The new update brings voice and video calls, file sharing, message editing and deletion, and several privacy-focused tools, including end-to-end encryption and alerts for screenshots.
The rollout is currently available on iOS and the web, with an Android version expected soon. X is also developing a voice memo feature that will allow users to send short audio messages within chats.
Previously, X had previewed some of these chat features, including encrypted messaging, but paused the early release in May due to technical issues.
The latest update expands encryption to group messages and shared media, although some metadata, such as recipient information, remains unencrypted.
Security experts note that the platform currently does not fully protect users from man-in-the-middle attacks, which could compromise conversations.
