OpenAI has announced it will provide its ChatGPT Enterprise product to U.S. federal agencies for only $1 throughout the next year. This offer applies to the entire executive branch workforce and is part of OpenAI s broader strategy to support the government in adopting artificial intelligence tools for better service delivery.
Through this deal, government agencies will have access to OpenAI’s most advanced models, including a 60-day trial of advanced features like Voice Mode.
The initiative is in partnership with the U.S. General Services Administration and aims to make government services faster, easier, and more reliable with AI.

OpenAI also revealed plans to open its first office in Washington, D.C., early next year to strengthen ties with lawmakers and regulators. This follows their June announcement of “OpenAI for Government” and a contract with the U.S. Department of Defense worth up to $200 million.
Meanwhile, OpenAI is in talks with investors about a stock sale that could value the company at nearly $500 billion. Earlier this year, it raised $40 billion at a $300 billion valuation making it the biggest private tech fundraising round in history.
This $1 offer is a bold and strategic move by OpenAI. By making its top-tier AI tools essentially free for U.S. federal agencies, OpenAI is not just marketing its product it’s embedding itself into the infrastructure of government.
This could influence how public services are delivered, how fast data is processed, and how decisions are made. It also positions OpenAI as a leading player in the national and global AI race, especially with its rapid valuation growth and government-level contracts.
