Vinicius shines again as Brazil beat Scotland 3-0 in World Cup clash
Brazil produced another impressive display at the World Cup, defeating Scotland 3-0 to finish as Group C winners and book their place in the last 32. The match also marked the long-awaited return of Neymar, who made his first international appearance in more than two and a half years.
Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior continued his outstanding form by scoring twice in the first half. His goals helped Brazil take complete control of the match and increased his tally to four goals in three World Cup games. Brazil took the lead early after a costly mistake by Scotland defender Scott McKenna. Vinicius quickly seized the opportunity, rounded goalkeeper Angus Gunn, and calmly slotted the ball into the net.
Scotland struggled to cope with Brazil’s attacking pressure and rarely threatened their opponents. Vinicius added his second goal in first-half stoppage time after another defensive error allowed Bruno Guimaraes to create the opportunity. The South American side continued to dominate after the break. Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha scored Brazil’s third goal on the hour mark, finishing neatly from a Guimaraes assist to put the result beyond doubt.
Scotland came close to reducing the deficit, but goalkeeper Alisson made important saves to deny Scott McTominay and preserve Brazil’s clean sheet. One of the biggest moments of the night came in the 76th minute when Neymar entered the field to loud cheers from the crowd. Brazil’s all-time leading scorer had not played for the national team since October 2023, and his return provided an emotional boost for supporters.

With the victory, Brazil finished top of Group C and will now travel to Houston for a last-32 match on June 29. Their next opponents will be the runners-up from Group F, which could be the Netherlands, Japan, or Sweden.
Vinicius also achieved a notable milestone by becoming the first Brazilian player to score in every group-stage match of a World Cup since Ronaldo and Rivaldo accomplished the feat in 2002. He now has four goals in the tournament and remains firmly in the race for the Golden Boot.
Scotland, meanwhile, faces an anxious wait. They finished third in Group C with three points and a goal difference of minus three. Their hopes of reaching the knockout stage now depend on whether they finish among the best third-placed teams. Morocco secured second place in the group after coming from behind twice to defeat Haiti 4-2, finishing level on points with Brazil but behind on goal difference.
