LOS ANGELES (Web Desk): Lionel Messi marked his presence on the scoresheet on Saturday as Inter Miami began their pre-season with a penalty shoot-out win over Mexico's Club America in Las Vegas.

The Argentine forward leveled the match in the 34th minute, heading in a cross from Luis Suarez after Henry Martin had put Club America ahead earlier.

Reyes from Israel claimed the lead again for Club America in the 52nd minute at Allegiant Stadium, making it 2-1.

In the 66th minute, new Miami coach Javier Mascherano substituted Messi as part of a series of second-half changes.

Club America seemed set for victory, but Tomas Aviles leveled the score in stoppage time, heading in a brilliant inswinging corner from Julian Gressel. The match then went to a penalty shoot-out, which Miami won 3-2 in sudden death.
