Pakistan must beat Sri Lanka by 65 runs in T20 World Cup to keep semifinal hopes alive.
Pakistan’s chances of reaching the semifinals in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup remain alive but depend on a massive win against Sri Lanka national cricket team today at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
To qualify for the final four, Pakistan must defeat Sri Lanka by 65 runs. If Sri Lanka bat first, Pakistan will need to chase the target within 13 overs to improve their net run rate significantly. Currently, New Zealand hold a strong net run rate of 1.390, while Pakistan stand at minus 0.461, making the equation extremely challenging.
Pakistan’s cautious middle-over strategy has faced criticism throughout the tournament. Questions have been raised over Babar Azam’s batting position and strike rate, while captain Salman Agha has struggled to make an impact both as a batter and leader. A group-stage exit could even spark debate over leadership changes.

Although Sri Lanka are already out of the Super Eight race, they may aim to end their campaign on a high and spoil Pakistan’s chances. Young spinner Dunith Wellalage could pose a serious threat to Pakistan’s top order.
The pitch at Palekelle previously assisted fast bowlers, with early movement expected again due to dry weather in Kandy.
