(Web Desk): Former Pakistan captain and ex-PCB chairman Ramiz Raja sparked controversy on the opening day of the first Test between Pakistan and South Africa at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium after an off-mic comment about Babar Azam was accidentally broadcast live.

The incident took place during the 49th over, when Babar, batting on one run, was given out caught behind off Senuran Muthusamy. As the batter opted for a DRS review, Raja’s voice was picked up by nearby microphones saying, “Yeh out hai, drama karega.”

Although the comment wasn’t part of the live commentary feed, it was caught on other mics and quickly went viral on social media. Fans of Babar Azam heavily criticized Ramiz Raja for what they called a “disrespectful and biased” remark.

Ironically, the replay later revealed no edge, and the umpire’s decision was overturned in Babar’s favor.

In the match itself, Pakistan had a strong start after opting to bat first. Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood added 161 runs for the opening stand, scoring 93 and 76 respectively, before a middle-order collapse saw the team fall from 163/1 to 199/5.

Babar Azam, coming in at a crucial stage, managed only 23 off 48 balls before being dismissed by Simon Harmer. However, Mohammad Rizwan and Agha Salman stabilized the innings with a superb unbeaten 114-run partnership, taking Pakistan to 313/5 at stumps, with Rizwan on 62 and Agha on 52.

This Test marks Pakistan’s first match in the 2025–27 World Test Championship cycle, but the off-field controversy has somewhat overshadowed the team’s solid performance.
